Dog Walker / Pet Sitter Required

Flexible, part-time hours plus occasional cover for other team members’ holidays/sickness.

We mainly cover the SG1, SG3 and SG13 areas and to be considered, you must reside within these areas or have easy access.

We do all the advertising, handle the enquiries and then pass the work to you. You are an independent contractor for Stevenage Pet Sitters (not an employee), and will be paid 75% of the fee we charge our clients.

General Information: Dog Walking and Pet Sitting is a very enjoyable career for those who love animals. The hours are flexible, so can fit around other commitments. However you will be expected to work in the wind, rain, and snow as well as on the nice sunny days – please keep this in mind!

Hours of work: The hours for this role are part-time, with the busiest days being Monday-Friday, and the majority of dog walking taking place between 10am and 3pm. However, we would prefer someone who is occasionally able to work outside these hours, and at weekends, especially during school holidays. You will also be required to help cover other dog walkers holidays and days off due to illness. It is likely that we will give you a few clients to begin with, and then gradually build up as you become more experienced and able to cope with more walking.

What does it mean to be self-employed? You will be responsible for your own income tax (see www.hmrc.gov.uk for more information), national insurance and record-keeping. If you are not able to work due to illness, injury or you are away on holiday you will not earn any income.

Will I need a car? Yes – using a bicycle, public transport or walking between jobs isn't possible. Your fuel and any vehicle-related expenses are your responsibility and will need to be taken into account.

Background checks: You need to be 21 years or over, and you will need to obtain a Police Subject Access check from your local Police Authority before you start. This currently costs £10 and gives all our clients peace of mind that you do not have a criminal record as you will have access to their home and pets whilst they are not there.

What experience do I need? We are looking for people who have experience of working with or owning dogs, cats and small domestic animals. You must be confident in handling large and small dogs and whilst training will be given, you will be required to demonstrate your ability. We require you to have good written and spoken English. You should be experienced in customer care and be confident talking to people and managing unexpected situations which may occur. You will need to meet the client and their pet beforehand, take the details of the assignment, collect keys and then communicate with them regularly to update them on the welfare of their pet. You will therefore need a mobile phone and be confident at sending text messages.

How do I apply? Please complete our Online Application Form.
